CHARGE OF WITCHCRAFT
AN ANGRY MOTHER’S ACCUSATION.
<Rec. April 10, 5.5 p.m.) Rome, April 9.
A curious accusation of witchcraft has been brought against an old woman in Milan, whom a mother accuses of causing her son Umberto to be possessed by a devil for three years. Umberto was unablo to sleep properly, and this is alleged to bo due to his eating a bewitched pear which the old woman gave him. The mother says that, before he ate the pear Umberto was obedient and religious, but now he uses bad language and smashes crucifixes. Priests have tried, to exorcise tho devil, but in vain. Even a blessing by the Cardinal Archbishop of Milan was unavailing. The old woman has just obtained police protection against the angry mother.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
