HEROES OF VERDUN
■ MONUMENTAL TOMB BY TELEGBAPH — PLESS ASSOCIATION. —copyright. (Rec. April 10, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, April 9. A jury selected a design for a, monumental tomb for the heroes of Verdun, following the advice of Marshal Petain that the monument should be simple, yet as great as the soul of a French soldier itself. The monument will cover fifteen acres and he visible for many miles. It will consist of an imposing colonnaded gallery several hundred feet long, surmounted by a tall tower.. It will stand on Thiaumont Ridge, at the top of a broad stairway cut in the hillside, and a terraced stairway vfill extend in a sweeping curve along the whole front of the monument, encircling u vast platform, which will enable great crowds to assemble on the occasion of a public ceremonial. Relics of the dead will be deposited within, and the entrance will be surmounted by a Lanterns des Morts. There will also be chapels of <ll Christian denominations and a mosque.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
