TRAWLER IN DANGER
BIG SEA AT HEADS DOES DAMAGE eWhile returning to Wellington from Cook Strait yesterday afternoon to have repairs effected to her steam winch, the steam trawler Futurist pooped a big sea nt the entrance to the harbour, and considerable damage resulted. One of the crew stated to a Dominion reporter that at the time of tho incident there was a heavy sea running. Suddenly a big wave swept the vessel fore and aft. The water penetrated to the engine-room and the cabins were flooded. Some fittings were washpd away, and deck gratings were considerably damaged. A member of the crew had. his leg badly jammed, and had to be attended to by a doctor. An eye-witness from the const stated that he saw the vessel tossed like a cork while entering the harbour. Several times she was almost on her beam ends, and on one occasion appeared to be swamped.
The Futurist is a vessel of 241 tons gross, and is owned by the New Zealand Trawling and Fish Supply Company. Captain Ormes was in charge.
