Tlie chairman of tho Finance Committee- told the City Council to-mjih that during the past financial year tho total rates levied amounted to £236,000, of which 'only £B7OO was uncollected on March 31. He thought that that was a remarkable result; in fact, it was the best result that had over been achieved by the council durin" any financial year. Tho city had reduced its indebtedness on the genera' account in the last two years by over £30,000. That was a result which the citizens should appreciate, for it showed that the affairs of the counc’» had been managed, not recklessly, but in a careful manner, and with duo regard to proper administration.
