INVESTIGATIONS IN NEW SOUTH” WALES DISCOVERY OF REMEDIES CLAIMED

A statement has been published in. tho Sydney papers that the New Zeatland Forestry Department has discovered a large grub pest in a shipment of Australian hardwood. The pest which, however, is most feared amongst builders and householders here, and which has undoubtedly caused, and is causing, serious damage, is the small dust and allied borers, the presence of which is loss easily discovered by non-experts than the larger and better known grub, and whose ravages and spreading propensities are far iware to be guarded against. The Forestry Department and building trades have been conducting exhaustive investigations with a view to checking the pest, and claim to have discovered various remedies for preserving woods from attack or ridding them of the pest after being infested. The matter is regarded as one of serious importance to the timber trade generally.—Press Assn.
