The colossal growth of education in tho United Stales is perhaps something more read about than real. Here is an inquiry from an American to the Commissioner (Lands and Survey Department) of Auckland about the prospects of settlement in New Zealand: — ‘‘Buckley, Washington, < February 22, 1923. ‘‘Dear Sir, —I read about your fine climate, and wonder if there is any opportunity for settlers (white) on the land there. I hear there are some farmers there. Is there any more available agricultural land there ? “Can one buy or lease same? “Terms, products, prices for products, amount each goes per acre, corn, barley, wheat, etc., or any kind of fruits grown, and market for same. I am interested in general farming and stock-raising. ■ “Rent and taxes are too high here. “Do tho savages molest the white « settlers ? “Do you have earthquakes? “Quite a colony hero are looking for a good location. “Respects, “Buckley, Wash.”
