HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held on Monday, when tnere were present: The Alayor (Air. W. T. Strand), Councillors A. J. West, A. J.' Hobbs, W. Cotton, A. Alacaskill, AV. N. Dempsey, J. Mitchell, and AV. G. Aleldrum. A letter was received from the Pete no Borough Council stating that a committee had been set up to discuss amalgamation with i.he . Lower Hutt borough and also with the AVellington City Council. Councillor Alacaskill was opposed to the discussion of amalgamation with AA r ellington, and thought they should confine themselves to the question of amalgamating with Petone. The meeting of the two committees is for April 5. A ’deputation of ratepayers asked for an improvement of the footpaths on Waterloo Road. The footpaths, it was stated, were in a bad condition and dangerous at night. It was promised that something would b© done for not only Waterloo Road footpaths, but for other footpaths in th© borough as well. It was decided to advise tho incoming council that a loan should be raised for the purpose of improving and reconstructing footpaths. The inspector reported two . cases, of infectious disease. Afotor trapping was carried out near th© northern boundary of the borough., and resulted in seven motorists being caught. The engineer reported on tlie satisfactory ■ progress made in the tarring and improving of the roads and footpaths in the borough. Building permits were issued during the fortnight to the value of £4050. Thev included ’five dwellings valued nt £3685.
