STANDARDISATION OF SCHOOL BOOKS
RECTOR’S PRAISE OF THE SCHEME. BY TELEGRAPH.—I’UBSS ASSOCIATION. Oamaru, March 19. Invited to give his views on tho Education Department’s proposed standardisation of text-books in secondary schools, Mr. Milner, rector of tho Waitaki Boys’ School, said that the proposal met with his approval, and that of his staff.' Ho added that the proposed list -appeared to bo both liberal in text-book provision and comprehensive as embracing most progressive works having the largest school backing. The scheme was supported because it meant a great economy ,in wholesale purchases by the elimination of a multiplication of discredited anil obsolete, text-books. It would contribute directly to educational efficiency and give guidance to the minor schools, inexperienced teachers, and extramural students. Tho scheme, Mr. Milnor considers, docs not discourage initiative or individuality.
