NOTES AND COMMENTS BY GLENCOE. ■ The Masterton meeting will be held on tho club’s course at Opaki on Saturday next. . Entries for tho Easter meeting of tho Wairarapa Racing Club are due to-night. Nominations for the Waipukurau meeting close to-night at 8 o’clock. The stewards of the Waipukurau Club are to meet to-morrow, when amongst other business the question of appointing a judge lor the meeting will be considered. It is considered likely that the position will ba filled by a Wellingtonian. Acceptances for the Bulls meeting close on Wednesday. The Opunake meeting will be held on Saturday next. Her Excellency Lady Jellicoe registered her first win as an owner when the two-year-old Gartmoro prevailed at Napier on Saturday. The victory was well received by the crowd, which cheered lustily as the Boniform gelding passed the post. and. again when he returned to weigh in. At a meeting of the stewards of the Auckland Racing Club last week, it was decided to hold an inquiry into every case of broken gear. Mr. W. R. Kemball has decided to be represented 'at the A.J.C. autumn mooting, and Insurrection and Trespass were shipped to Sydney on the ITliniaroa last Friday. Killashandra and Sunny Spec were on the same boat. The programme for the autumn meeting of the Wellington Racing. Club has made its appearance. There is no sign of any reduction in the principal I stakes, and the Thompson Handicap is again worth 1500 sovs, and the Au- ]

tumn Handicap 1000 sovs. The New Zealand St. Leger, 550 sovs., Challenge Stakes, 1000 sovs,, Trantham Gold Cup, 1000 sovs., and Suburban Handicap, 750 sovs., are other valuable races on the card. Entries close at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 23. Local owners who intend patronising the West Coast meetings at Easter should note that entries for the Kumara meeting close to-night. The veteran Rorke’s Drift has apparently taken a new lease of life, and he has been nominated for the principal events at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting. Last year Bonnie Winkie was given a couple of races at Invercargill, to finish off his preparation for the Great Autumn Handicap. Apparently a similar programme has been mapped out for him this year. A 101 b. penalty for his two Invercargill successes was not a serious matter last year, when he was originally handicapped at 7st. in the Great Autumn Handicap, but for next month’s race he is certain to get at least 9st. and a penalty on top of that will count.

A Press Association message from Melbourne states that The Cypher, The Monk, Harvest King, Mufti, and King Ingoda, go to Sydney on Tuesday.
