PUBLIC SERVICE TOURNEY WON BY POST & TELEGRAPH RINK The Public Service, bowling tournament was continued on the Wellington Club’s gree’n yesterday, the play extending from 9.30 a.m. until 6.30 p.m. The weather was line, but extremely windy, and the element of luck largely entered into the games in consequence. Thera was only ono tie to j>la.y oil — that between Education and Treasury —to decide the winner of Section E. Eight heads were played, the resultbeing a win for Treasury, B—s.8 —5. rregsury drow tho bye. ■ Tho play-off between section winners resulted as follows: — Pubic Wioi-ks (Halliday) beat jP. and T. (Dall), 19—3; P. .and T. (Brackenridge) beat Government. Printing Office (Warwick), 19—18. P. and T. (Brackenridge) drew the bye in the final draw. In the semi-final game Public Works (Halliday.) beat 'Jreasury, 29—8. Tho final game ended in a victory for the Post and Telegraph rink, skipped by J. M. Brackenridge, tho scores being 18—15. Phis was a very well contested game, Halliday’s Public Works’ rink giving the winners a big run for the supremacy. As a matter of fact, the Public Works’ rink scored on twelve out of the twentyone heads, but for the. most part in singles, whilst Brackenridge Scored in lumps. , At tho conclusion of tho game the organiser (Mr. AV. B. Jourdain) presented the shield to the winners, and in doing so congratulated them on tho good game they had played. THE NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM A HEARTY WELCOME The visiting team of New South Wales bowlers and their lady friends arrived by the middav express yesterday, and were welcomed by the officials of tho AVellington Association. At 5 o’clock yesterday afternoon a civic reception was extended to tlio visiting bowlers, in conjunction with tho Redfern Municinal Band, at the Town Hall, bv the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright), city'councillors, and a largo attendance of the public. The Mayor, in welcoming the bowlers, assured the visitors that the'y would find the bowlers in the Dominion just as hospitable as were bowlers in any part of the world. riiere.-' should . ho said, bo no difference between Australia «and New Zealand. Both should stand together, trade together, and. if over the occasion arose, fight together to protect their mutual interests in tho Pacific. The twp peoples should be as one. Ho.was glad that the Australian bowlers had brought their ladies with them, as men when they went on tour too often left their wives at homo. (Laughter.) Councillor AV. IT. Bennett also extended a hearty welcome. Mr. Ff Meadowcroft, on behalf of the AVollington Bowling Centre, voiced a hearty reception to the visiting bowlers. Ho trusted that these visits between tho bowlers of the various Australian States and New Zealand would continue, and help to still further cement the ties between the two countries. t Mr. J. The bowlers in New South AA r alcs had a good deni to learn from Now Zealand as to the manner in which the game should bo governed. The New South AAfeles team comprised 21 players, and they had been brave enough' to bring thirteen .ladies with them. (Laughter.) Cheers were given for the visitors, and ‘'For They Are Jollv Good Fellows” was heni-yiv sung. Tho visitors then gave cheers for the Mayor and Mayoress, and sprang a surprise by singing “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” in Maori. WELLINGTON TEAM TO MEET NEW SOUTH AVALES.
