SMOTHERING A FIRE
OUTBREAK IN BLACKBALL MINE BY TBLEGXAPH.—PBH6S ASSOCIATION. Cf'eymouth, February 5. The Blackball mine was unsealed on Saturday in the hope of reaching the main fire area with water, but owing to heavy falls in the main -air return, as the result of the heating, it was impossible to penetrate to the back end of the fire area. The mine was re-sealedl for a further period to accomplish the smothering of the fire bv the fumes generated by it. The slip in the maln haulage , ro P° road tunnel the State mine has been cleared, and the miners are working to-day. _______
