FEILDING SHOW

OPENING DAY JUDGES’ AWARDS IN LIVE STOCK CLASSES CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS BY TELEGRAPH—SPECIAL BEPOttTEB. Feilding, February 6. Boisterous weather prevailed for the opening day of the Feilding Show. Heavy rain fell in the morning, but the sky cleared in the afternoon, although a strong south-westerly wind Was blowing. Generally, the entries were about the same as last year, Jerseys predominating amongst the cattle and Romneys in the sheep section. There was good competition in fat sheep, while Southdowns were entered in large numbers. There was some deterioration in quality to bo noted, especially among the fat lambs (for which the season has been rather unfavourable) and Romney rams. Some comment lias been made on the awards in freezing classes at certain 1 shows, it being alleged that heavy animals have been unfairly awarded prizes. Nothing of this sort took place at Feilding, great care being exercised to see that the conditions »ere complied with. The Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands' and Railways, visited the show to-day. He, was welcomed by the president, Mr. C. G. C. Denner, and in the course of his reply paid a compliment to the management of the association and the self-denying work put in by the officials. Good progress was made with Hie judging to-day, and it will be com‘pleted to-morrow. The following is the list of prize-winners:— CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS CATTLE.
