Local seismographs report terrific upheavals 5000 miles away, probably m the bed of the Pacific. Dispatches from Hawaii report four tidal waves, which inundated the island for a large distance inland, and swept over many smaller islands, besides swamning fishing-boats with loss of life. Volcanoes which were believed to bo extinct have begun to erupt, but with minor intensity.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
