MAN WITH REVOLVER
« FOUND ON AUCKLAND FERRY WHARF Acting on “information received,” Constable O’Brien, of Auckland (relates the “Star”), went in search of Thomas John Whiteman.- He found him on the Ferry "Wharf, and arrested him on a charge of drunkenness. When searched at the police station Whiteman was found to be in possession of a five-ohambored revolver and some ammunition. The next morning he was charged with drunkenness and with having carried a revolver and ammunition in a public place. Ho said he had been drinking in the morning, but he did not think ho was drunk when arrested. Constable O’Brien said the man looked very excited when arrested, and appeared to have been drinking. Sergeant Rowell: He was arrested for his own good. He could have been charged with carrying a' revolver under the Firearms Act.
Mr. Poynton, S.M., said the carrying of firearms was a dangerous practice, and must be put a stop to.. There was no telling what a man might do with a revolver when under the influence of drink. Accused was fined £2O, in default one month’s imprisonment on the major charge. On the charge of drunkenness a conviction was recorded. One month was allowed the accused in which'to pay tho fine.
