BURGLARS AT WORK
AUCKLAND DRAPERY STORE RAIDED
During- last week-end burglars seem to have been busy in Auckland (states tho “Star”). Tho premises of Hugh Wright, Ltd., outfitters, Karangahape Road branch, were entered and a number of articles stolen. Owing to the holiday on Monday the robbery was not discovered until Tuesday morning. When the manager opened the promises ho was astonished to find that a lot of goods were missing. Tho police were communicated with, and investigation showed that entry had been effected from the rear of the building, which is at tho corner of Karangahape Road and Belgium Street. Apparently the thief had got into the yard and broken a window to enable him to undo a catch, and thus get into the shop. His choice of articles was a large one, and evidently he had good taste, as tbo goods taken were mostly costumes and lines, of silk, ineluding hosiery. As this is a different thing to stealing jewellery or cash from a private house, the police should have in better chance of tracing the goods, for there must be some purchaser for such lines, if the thief is to get any return for tho risk taken. As far as can bo ascertained bv tho firm, goods to the value of £lOO were removed from, the establishment.
