During New Year week (states the “Taumarunui Press”) seven parties have left Taumarunui for V anganm — two of them using Canadian canoes, three flat bottom boats, and the remaining two being of the clinker tJ’P®' The canoes undoubtedly provide the quickest mode of travel, and would prove very serviceable in negotiating the shallows on account of their lightness, but the latter craft on the whole would be best in the long run. One party, consisting of four, which has previously made the trip is using a seventeen foot boat of the clinker type. This party left Taumarunui op Sunday and arrived at the Houseboat on Monday. Each party has with it a good supply of provisions as well as camping, ’fishing, and shooting material. The craft for tho parties was brought to Taumarunui by rail.
