MAGISTRATE’S COURT

A SERIOUS CHARGE. Mr. E. Page, S.M., dealt with the police cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. . . A middle-aged man named WilliamFrederick Kennedy, described as a night porter, pleaded guilty to a charge of indecently assaulting a boy under twelve, and was committed- to the Supreme Court for sentence. Frederick Marshall, alias Logan, was remanded for a further week on a charge" of obtaining 15s. by means of a valueless cheque. Similar remands were granted in the cases of Ralph Antonovik (who is charged with receiving), and William Holland Makin, Leonard Walter Alakin, and Percy Dawling Hawkins (who are alleged to he concerned in the Government cheque ease). Remands until this morning were granted in the cases of Joseph Thomas Woolley (charged with theft) and Roland 'Thomas Ferguson (charged with setting fire to the Lower Hutt fire station on November 25). Charged with indecently assaulting t> female, a labourer named James Patrick O’Brien, 48 years of age, was remanded until this morning. LOWER H UTT SITTING

The monthly sitting of the Lower Hutt Court was held yesterday, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., presiding. Several charges against the licensee of the Bellevue Hotel for alleged breaches of the Licensing Act were till February 7. Martin Smith was fined £2 and costs 7s. for leaving an nnlighted motor-Uorry i:i the' main street. Frederick Butler was fined 10s. and costs lor riding a bicycle without lights, and two juveniles, for similar offences, were convicted and discharged. -
