THE PENDING REDUCTION ARBITRATION COURT ISSUES GENERAL ORDER EXCEPTIONS SET OUT i The Arbitration Court has issued a formal general order ' In pursuance of its recent pronouncement respecting the cut in the ccst-of«living bonus. In connection with the Arbitration Court’s pronouncement reducing tlio wages bonus, the following general order has been issued by the Court: — (i) All time rates of remuneration, whether the same are payable as basic wages with a bonus or bonuses, provided for in the awards and industrial agreements now in force in the Donuiiicn of New Zealand, save those referred to in clause 3 hereof, shall bo reduced in the following proportions;—

Workers employed in theatres and other places ol entertainment, who are paid at performance rates, 3d. per performance. Fenialei workers, for whom the same rates of remuneration as for male workers,’ are prescribed, shall be regarded as male workers for the purposes of this order. (2) All piecework rates (inclusive of bonuses, if any) provided for in the awards and industrial agreements referred to ia clause 1 hereof, shall continue in force for the purpose of calculating the earnings of the workers, but the earnings of each worker shall oo reducible in respect of the time actually worked by him or her m each week by an amount calculated, at the rate of 3s. per week hi the case ot males, and Is. 6d. per week in the cate of females , . The rates of remuneration now prescribed ior such workers nt Wellington and Dunedin shall be reducible by Is. 6d. per " C (5) This order shall operate and take effect as from the 4th day of December, 1922. and shall continue in operation while the respective awards and industrial agreements remain in force, or until such earlier date as may be ordered by the Court. FREEZING WORKERS’ AWARDS EXCLUDED COURT STATES REASONS BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. Dunedin, November 24< The Arbitration Court has made an order amending end excluding from the operation of the general order rsgardiim- the wages bonus, the freczin<r works and related trades employees’ awards in various industrial districts in the Dominion. The Court s order is as follows:— , -xl (1) That clause 17 of each of the said awards shall be deleted, and the following clause substituted therefor: r, 17. Bonus in addition to the minimum rates prescribed in clauses 2 to 15 hereof (inclusive) —There shall be paid unless and until the Court shall otherwise order, the following bonuses, namely, to time workers a bonus of per centum on the above Tates, and to piece workers a bonus of 5 n<?r eentuni on the above rates, provided that such bonuses shall not be paid to those workers covered by clause 13. who receive rates and bonuses (if any) provided in and by other awards or industrial agreem (2) That this order shall operate , and take effect as from December 4, 1922. j Attached to the order is the follow- < inrr memorandum: —“The Court excluded the freezing workers’ award . from the operation of the general or- . ?er ni-ide to-day. the reason, being that the bonus additions provided for . in Ibo awards were made on a.percelitr..n i-asis and the bonus adjustment for the past half-year was also made on a percentage basis. for in the general order affecting other awards and industrial agreements. A reduction of 5 per cent, would involve a greater reduction than Bs. per week, and for that reason we have adopted the lower percent--age.”
