EASTBOURNE BOROUGH
MEETING OF TOE COUNCIL. Tho Eastbourne Borough Council met last night. There were present: Tho Mavor (Mr. F. H. Mather). Councillors 0. Hartridge, T. Giles, H. McGill, C. Green. T. W. Pilcher, C. A. Marquis, and T. W. Bennett. , Tho Mayor announced that electric current from Mangahao would be ayailablo in about eighteen months’ time, and that Eastbourne had made application to the Power Board for two hundred * street lights. Singularly enough, the same number had been applied for by Petone. It was stated ihat Lady Allen would bo requested to perform tho christening ceremony at the launching of the new ferry steamer Muritai at Montrose, Scotland, on December 20. The general manager reported that the new motor roller and cutter had considerably improved the surface of the recreation ground. Good progress was being made with the erection of tho tea ikiosk, and it was hoped to complete the work before Christinas. All excavation and foundation work in connection with. the new tennis courts had been finished, and a contract had been entered into for the carting of 180 cubic yards of metal for asphalt. The receipts and expenditure at the coal depot were respectively £835 14s. 3d. and £7OB 15s. 9d. Building permits to the total value oi £6806 had been issued since the previous report. . Tho Mayor said that he considered the value' of building permits issued since April 1, £27.625 10s.. was highly 'satisfactory, particularly in view of the present financial stringency.
