Vice-Regal. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-wal is to leave again for Christchurch on Monday evening to attend the annual convention of the Masonic Order, of which he is to be installed Grand Master for New Zealand. The ceremonies will extend until Thursday evening. His Excellency will return to Wellington next week-end, and will leave for Auckland on December 4, so that he will be in residence in Auckland when the . elections take place. Her Excellency Viscountess Jellicoe returned from Picton by H.M.S. Veronica last evening. She will leave for Auckland on Tuesday next, where she will remain until the New Year.

Mr. Ivan I. McGregor, who has been Assistant Supervisor in the District Telegraph Engineers’ Branch, G.P.0.. for tho past six years, was tarewelled yesterday prior to taking up the duties of Postmaster, Lower Hutt, to which position he has. been transferred. Sawtell has been appointed sole teacher of the Gastiepoint School. .A Press Association message from Timaru reports the death of Mr. Thomas Hawkey, a former Mayor, aged sixty-nine. Signora Tetrazzini will give a farewell concert at tho Albert Hall, Lon- I don, to-day, according to a Press Association message. She will then go to the United States and give a series of coSjcerts, receiving £9OO a concert. Afterwards she. will go to Australia, (there she will give thirty concerts at £lOOO apiece. / Fings were flown at half-mast yesterday on the local office of the Com, uionwealth and Dominion Shipping Line on account of the death of Mr. Charles Milburn, at London, on Thursday morning. The late Mr. Milburn was one of the London directors of this line. He was formerly a director of Milburn and Company, whose steamers traded between the United Kingdom and Australia. When this firm amalgamated with other shipping companies to form the present O. and D.
