FINAL GALLOPS AT. RICCARTON

The heavy rain which set in last night gave the Riccarton tracks a great soaking, and some of the trainers contented themselves with road exercise this morning. Most of them, however. had their horses on the course, the number six grass track being open for fast work. Almoner was allowed to stride along at a sound pace over about a mile. A few other horses were given short sprints, but most of the work was of the useful order, there being very little of interest in tho proceedings. Petunia and Bonnv Friend, who arrived from Wellington yesterday, will in future bo trained at Riccarton by K. MacDonald. Petunia was formerly in a Riccarton stable, while Bonny Friend is a three-year-old, by Boniform from Rosilita, who is a half sister t$ Solfanello and Roseday.
