INCOME TAX RETURNS
“PERSISTENT] WILFUL DEFIANCE” ' v That there was a £lOO penalty awaiting the defendant if he failed to comply with the wishes of the Department 1 in respect to the obligation of income tax returns was a declaration made by Mr. F- K. Hunt, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday with reference to one J. S. Munro, who was asked to explain why he had not supplied his returns. Mr. Tudhope,' of the Crown Law office, stated that the defendant had paid no tax since 1915, and had repeatedly ignored the requests from tho Department, who had come to regard the case as one of persistent wilful defiance for the purpose of evading tho tax. The Magistrate adjourned the case for fourteen, days.
