THISTLE CAPTAIN IN A DILEMMA -, i. to The editor. ■ Sir, — -In view offdhe decision armed at last Wednesday by the Management Committee of the Wellington. Football Association, to suspend McArthur, a member of the Thistle team, for an alleged offence said to have been committed during the progress of the match between Watersiders and Thistle, which took place at the Basin Reserve on July 29 last, I would like through the medium of your paper to be enlightened ten the following jxiints by the Management Committee of the Wellington Football Association. The referee most emphatically states that McArthur did not commit the alleged offence, and found no occasion to warn him for ungentlemanly conduct. This evidence is corroborated by the fact that the linesmen in the powers vested in them did not draw the referee’s attention to any breach on MoArthur’s part, which proves beyond question that the three neutral officials of the game exonerated McArthur from all blame. As the decision of the Management Committee to suspend McArthur conclusively proves that, the neutral officials, the referee and linesmen, do not control, tho game, but that tho Wellington Football Association controls the game from the “bank.” I desire to know where the members of the Wellington Football. Association will be situated on.the ground at the Basin Reservo, wlien. tlio bhiuo foams will be JR opposition today, so that I , as captain of tho Thistle team, can. appeal to them Should necessity arise—l am, etC ’’ GEORGE. M. CAMPBELL. 330 Tinakori Road, Wellington.
