i ANNUAL COUNCIL. The fifth Dominion annual council of the Protestant Political Association commenced its session yesterday at the Esperanto Hall. Therfe was a large and representative attendance, the’ president, Mr. Ewen McGregor, presiding. Reference was made to the decease of Sir Henry Wilson, and a motion was passed by a standing vote : “That the council tenders to Lady W’ilson its deepest sympathy in the bereavement which has befallen her through the death of her husband, Sir Henry Wilson. The council recorded its profound sorrow at the deed which ended _ the career of a noble Britisher,' who devoted*his great services to the Empire and to the Allies, and to his loyal comrades in Ulster.” , . The president’s address reviewed what he said were the world-wide activities of those forces which were inimical to the best interests of the Empire. Considerable discussion ensued, it, being decided to accept the report jand have it printed in the official records of the council. Mr. G. J. Harford presented an account of the recent tour of the Rev. R. Detterich throughout the Dominion. A resolution was carried expressing appreciation of Mr.. Detterich's lectures, also of the action of the Victorian Federation in permitting Mr. Detterich to visit New Zealand. Thanks were also accorded to Mr. Harford for accompanying the visitor on his tour. Much satisfaction was expressed at the national lecturer, the Rev. Howard, Elliott, being present in person to present the annual statement of the operations of the association. Special reference was made to the approaching elections, and it was stated that definite plans were being arranged to support candidates who were loyal to the Empire. The balance-sheet, which revealed a. lairge income, was adopted after considerable discussion. A Public Questions Committee was appointed, whose recommendations will be considered when the council resumes business this morning.
