NEWTOWN CLUB ANNUAL MEETING ■ Mr. James Brackenridge, president of the Newtown Bowling- Club, presided at thet twenty-ninth annual meeting of that club held last evening. The annual report showed that although the club had a larger membership than in other, years, the membership had not reached the ■ desired mark. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £lO7l 19s. 9d. Messrs. James Brackenridge' (sen.) and J. M. Brackenridge had succeeded in winning the championship pairs of- the Dominion Bowling Association >in January, and several of the teams j ' i had done very successfully at the Centre tournament held at Wellington at Easter. Messrs. Cobb, Ferguson, Stewart, and Brackenridge (sen.) ■ had won the Manawatu Centre's toiirnament. The club had thus gained its (third consecutive win at that tourna'ment. Messrs. Powell, ; Leahy, Priddle. and J. Russell (skip) had ; again won the Eastbourne Club s tournament. A smoke concert had beep ' tendered the president and his son in honour of thear Dunedin success. In 1 the centres competition, the clubs had also been very successful. •The usual number of club, competitions had been played off during the season, the winners being as follow: Rinks : < Messrs. W. VICTORIA CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING ‘

The annual meeting of the Victoria Bowling Club wgs held last, evening in the pavilion. The president, Mr. G. J. B. Norwood, presided over a large attendance of members. ■ The directors’ report was taken as * read. The president, moving its adoption, said that the year had been one of the greatest possible/- pleasure and harmony amongst members, and so . long as friendly connections continued to be enriched, the club would fulfil its true functions. No outstanding change, had been brought about during 'the year, with the exception of the very convenient right of way - from Majoribanks Street. Th© gat© had been donated by Mr. Luke, and other members had generously assisted to defray the . cost of its erection. He alluded to the Victoria Bowling Club Peace Commemoration Bursaries, founded by ■ a voluntary donation of £lOO by.members for the'purpose of establishing a fund to allow of two bursary at the Wellington Technical School, lhe Government subsidy of £lOO had rendered possible two bursaries of £5 ..each, and, these .were to be annually awarded to/lhe two second-year students who showed most promise. As £lO over tad , /above the principal sum was handed'to the Technical School Board, and'carried also a subsidy, two bursaries were awarded to students of the previous year. The bursaries for 1920 were ♦ awarded as follow-: —-Art, Vera Nisbet; engineering, Gordon Snndo; 1921, engineering, Harold Smith and Victor Holst. He suggested that tho names of the yearly winners be hung in the clubroom. (Hear, hear.) As regarded finance, the club was living within its income. Ths ensuing year would comment with a full membership, so that finance would remain satisfactory. They were losing, / with regret, Messrs. W. E. Jackson, S. E. Luke, G. E. Godber, and H. J. Reid, men who had taken a keen interest m every aspect, of the club’s affairs. ' , . The election of officers resulted- as follows: —President, Mr. W. T. Mack; hon. secretary, Mr. A. I W. Manning; hon. treasurer, Dr. J. S» Maclaunn; directors, Messrs.' A. G. Dixon, H. L. Fraser, D. C. Innes, C. B. Norwood, F. Townsend, and AV. Reid'. Mr H. I. Keith was elected delegate to the Wellington Bowjing Cen’tre, the chairman remarking that he was the only foundation member still with the club, and paying a .tribute to \ his keen and valued services. Mr. F. A. Laws moved the following motion as a recommendation to the incoming board: “That it be an Instruction to delegates to move at the next meeting of the centre to have, the principle of the “champion of champions’ as at present in force altered, and that "each , team be allowed to find its own champion in. its own way.” Details of the champion team could be left in the hands of the committee. Mr., R. Scott seconded the motion, which'was carried. " -
