In the course of an address on “Advertising and the Law” on Thursday night Mr. R. A. Singer resurrected come peculiar legal cases (states the Auckland “Star”). “One of the most original examples of the occasional real usefulness of the law,’’ he remarked “is to be found in the case of Mackett v. the Commissioners of Herne Bay (not the bay so called in Ponsonby). In this case an injunction was granted to restrain a clergyman from delivering a sermon.” Mr. Singer humorously added: “This seems to bo a weapon of the law too infrequently invoked.” It was explained that the sermon proposed to be preached was in reference to a trial to take place the following Monday. i

An English visitor, to whom New Zealand show conditions were 11 mostly new, ssiys he will go back to his native city impressed with the virility and tho newer viewpoint of the New Zealander, states the Palmerston . “Times.” Asked if he could suggest ' any novelty or improvement for our benefit, he said no, unless it -was that park room for 1000 cars on the inner * circumference of the grounds would add wonderfully to the privilege of members and their friends, who would thus find the show much more attractive. Ho remarked upon the absence of an up-to-date score board to indicate football match results, also the fact that no band was in attendance. He did not think tho management would adopt one novelty lie sawin an American show, a procession of decorated oxen, some carrying passengers in one or two-storied howdahs, such as are carried by elephants for big game hunters!

In spite of rough weather conditions there was a good audience at the Wesley Hall, Taranaki Street, last evening, when a concert, for the purpose of adding to the Island Bay WesleyChurch organ fund, was held. Air. E; AV. Burd organised the concert, which all the way through was of a high standard, the contributions of all performances very well meriting the reception given. It is estimated that £2O or more will be added to the organ fund as a result of last night’s- concert. Contributions were given by the following well-wishers: —Misses j'Jfe Buckmaster, Nellie Aimes, and Hard-inge-Maltby, Messrs. AVill, McKeon, F. Gunn, Vryn Evans, Claude Tucker, Claude Tanner, and Master William Knox. Mrs. Withers and Miss MoKeoji acted &s accompanists.
