REDUCTION IN PERSONNEL LARGE SURPLUS OF OFFICERS By Telegbaph.—press association. —COPYRIGHT. (Rec. May If, 5.5 p.m.) Lori.’nn, May 13. The Admiralty announces that owing to the large reductions and requirements in the personnel for tho fleet and naval establishment generally, a large surplus of officers exists of certdin ranks and seniorities. The total surplus is approximately 1835, of which 1429 belong to the executive branch. The Admiralty hopes that all officers in the ranks and seniorities affected having special cha:W:es of settling in civilian life or exceptional opportunity of taking another career will- do so. Should the response to this invitation be insufficient, . the number necessary to complete the reductions will be selected and given an afternative of retiring on special terms or placed on half pay.—Aus.-N.Z.
