ISLAND OF YAP
NEW PROPOSAL BY UNITED STATES USE AS CABLE LANDING By Telerranh—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. September 18, 5.5 p.m.) Washington, September 16. It is understood that the United States Government has submitted a new proposal to Japan for the settlement of the Yap question. The move is in response to a compromise proposal made by Japan some time ago, and is concurrent with an informal agreement between Mr. Hughes and Mr. Shidchara on the principles of a settlement based on Japan’s willingness to recognise the rights of America and other nations to the use of Yap as a cable landing'.—Aus.-N.Z.
