' Influential Moplah merchants at Calicut state that it is unjust to condemn all Moplahs on account of the Ernad fanatics, who were misled' and waged war at the instigation of agitators. The merchants likened them to mad dogs, ivhte were shot at sight. They are of opinion that the magnitude of the outbreak was due to’ the abolition of the Malapparam and Cannanore military stations, in the centre of the disturbance. They recommend the restoration of these stations. A large proportion of the are said to hare served in ihe army in Mesopotamia, hence the destruction of bridges, railways, and telegraphs, a hitherto unknown feature in Moplah risings.
