QUICKER WIRELESS
MARCONI’S NEW INVENTION. What is considered by Mr. Marcuni to be one of the most important developments in wireless telegraphy in recent years has just .been successfully tested by* the famous Italian wireless inventor in his yacht Eletira oil the English coast. ’The invention consists of a "filter which 'fill eliminate electrical disturbances caused by atmospheric conditions which interrupt’the receipt of messages, especially at this time of the year. Three “atmospherics” are heard by a wireless operator in tiie.Yorm of a surging noise in his receivers. Mr. Marconi, wfio returned to London recently, I old a “Daily Mail ’ reporter that the "filter” will make 'it possible to send and receive high-speedNmessages between <|lreal Britain and the United States nil the day through. "It will bring Great Britain- and the United State- closer together, as messages will be sent so much quicker. Not only will the delay caused by atmospherics be removed, but. also the delay by repetitions will be eliminated.
“It is going to be fitted' at once to English long-distance stations,” he said, "and will be there practically tested. I am glad it is being used first of all over here, and not in the UnMed States, as is usual with wireless inventions. During the t ests we received Ihe news of the Dempsey-Carpentier fight, round for round, in the Eletfra. “We do not know altogether the cause of ‘atmospherics.’ They may Ire caused perhaps by thunderstorms or (he evaporation of the sea.—it is not certain.” Mr. Marconi is going lo make further tests of the instrument almost nt once in his yacht. ) ■■ i
