DRY WEATHER

RAIN BADLY NEEDED. Wellington in September is usually the reverse of dry. This year, however, the early spring rains have so far been conspicuous by their absence. Eor the past month very mild and beautifully sunny weather has been the ruld, and, being unseasonable, it has not been welcomed by those on the land. The city gardens are beginning to suffer as a result of the* dryness of the season, z and the grass, which at this time of the year should be lush with spring rains, is not pleasing the eye of the farmers in this district, where solid, soaking rains would bo welcomed. The weather in Wellington during the last few weeks: would almost persuade one that Christmas was close at hand. Yesterday the sun had a burn in it that would have done credit to a mid-.Tnnu-ary day, and even when the sky became overclouded in the afternoon there was a mid-summer mugginess noticeable in tho atmosphere. There are residents of Karori and across tho harbour dependent on tanks for their water supply, who do not like the reverberating rumble given out by the tanks when thumped, and. some of the tanks have already given' out altogether. This in September is phenomenal. *
