STATE-CONTROLLED FLEET PROPOSED
ENGLAND TO NEW ZEALAND IN 19 DAYS

The "Daily Mail” states that a scheme ( for an accelerated State-controlled steamship service linking up tho Dominions with England is being considered by tho Imperial Shipping Committee. It provides for a fleet of eight fast vessels of 50,000 tons, with high-power turbine engines, oil-burning, with a speed of 26 knots across the Atlantic, and 25 knots elsewhere. The accommodation of the vessels would bo 600 first and 300 eecondclaes passengers. The proposed service would bring Halifax within four days and Vancouver within 8} days of Liverpool, while the journey from Liverpool to ’Sydney, via Vancouver, would take twenty days and n half, and that to New Zealand nineteen days—a decrease of ten days. Tho South African service would be fortnightly, and the journey from Plymouth to Cape Town would take ton days.—United Service.
