William Love, a watersider, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing various articles valued at 10s., the property of the Union Steam Ship' Co., and was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment. The evidence showed that accused had gone aboard the Paloona, and when coming off was stopped by Customs officials. He was in possession of the articles named in the charge. The Magistrate said this class of offence was being carried on extensively in the Dominion. Many persons engaged i.u transport work were looking upon pillaging as a fair means of increasing their incomes.
