PUBLIC SERVICE WALKING CONTEST

A giteat deal of interest is being taken by the various departments of the Public Service, in the walking contest which is to be held on Dominion Day. This event is open to teams of ten men from any Government Department, the first three men home to count for points. The course is from Lower Hutt Post Office to Thorndon Baths, a distance of about eight miles. Arrangements are well in hand for the event, the officials for which include Mr. T. W. Leslie, in whose hands the question of judging the contest will bo left. Eighty teams have already been entered for the event, including three from the Post and Telegraph Department and two from the .Lands and, Survey. The Wellington G.P.O. letter-carriers are represented by ft full team and may be first favourites. The winning team and the first three men to finish will receive medals, and in addition Messrs. Lindsay’s, Ltd., have donated a pair of boots as a special prize to the winner.
