LIBEL ACTION
X2OO CLAIMED; £5 AWARDED/ By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Masterton, September 12. Before Mr. Justice Salmond, in the Supreme Court to-day, Mrs. Margaret Motley claimed £2OO damages for alleged libel from Mrs. Mary O’Sullivan. Mr. W. Noble appeared for the plaintiff and the defendant was represented by her husband. The libel was alleged to have been contained in a letter written by defendant to plaintiff’s mother, Mrs. Mary M'Namara, of Hastings, and concerned an engagement ring over which there had been Magistrate’s Court proceedings. His Honour commented on the fact that action should have been brought in the Magistrate’s Court, and asked why the proceedings had been delayed until after the case in the ■ Lower Court, the letter being twelve months old. He awarded damages £5, and fixed costs on the Magistrate’s Court scale. . *
