“FATTY” ARBUCKLE
DETAINED BY POLICE ON GRAVE CHARGE , i RESULT OF AN ACTRESS’S DEATH By Telearanh —Press Association—ponyright (Rec. September 12, 8.50 p.m.) San Francisco, September 12. Roscoe ("Fatty") Arbuckle, tho kinema star, has been ‘ detained by the police as the" result of tho death of Miss Virginia Rappe, a beautiful movie actress, who died from peritonitis, following a party in Arbuckle’s room, at which she had several drinks. ' The police point out that the California law provides that a charge of murder shall be entered against anyone taking life during an attempt to commit a felony. The nurse attending Miss Rapp© claims, that the actress stated that she had been Assaulted. Arbuckle, upon the advice of counsel, refuses to say anything, but before being informed that the police desired an interview with him, ho had declared that after Miss Rappe took the drinks sho became hysterical and tore the clothes off her body, and compelled him to call a. physician.—Aus.-N.Z.
