I * MANAWATU -REMITS FOR CONFERENCE. . I At a meeting of the Manawatu School Committee’s Association held last week a letter was received from the Federated School Committees’ Association intimating that an important conference of affiliated school committees would be held in Wellington on October 25, and that several education reforms would be discussed, including the question of school books. After discussion it was decided that Messrs. G. Stiles, Lo Grange,‘and Horn-, blow should bo the delegates, and the following remits were agreed to and ordered to' bo sent to the conference:— (1) That all nominations for school committees close one week before date of election. (2) That school books be standardised. (3) That 'pressure be brought to bear on the Government to give effect to the medical inspection of schools, and reports of such inspection be given effect to. (4) That the principle of establishing, assembly halls in schools be given effect to. (5) That 40 pupils be the maximum under, any one teacher, irrespective of classes, and’ that pressure bo brought to bear to limit that number to one room. (6) That the State provide free and compulsory medica I and dental treatment to all children attending State schools. (7) That plans for schools bo standardised. f 8) That the Government be asked' to take steps to, give effpet to the request of education boards and school committees to supoly school books and requisites at cost price. (9 That in all new schools separate tables and chairs lie provided for tho pupils in place of the dual desk system.
