RECOMMENDATIONS OF BUSINESS MEN’S COMMITTEE HUGE SAVING IN NEXT ESTIMATES By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. September 10, 1.5 a.m.) London, September 8. The business men’s Economy Committee, of which Sir Eric Geddes is chairman, has found ways of saving a hundred millions in the next Estimate?. The committee’s main recommendation is th abolition of labour exchanges. The committee admits that some local machinery will bo necessary while the Gov. ernment continues to pay unemployment insurance, but believes it can be done simply and cheaply. The committee has made startling recommendations for economising in Mesopotamia and Palestine, but this will involve an important reconsideration of Cabinet policy. Other recommendations are drastic economies in expenditure on the army and naval dockyards. It is hoped to economise further by reducing the cost and size of the Civil Service, though difficulties are expected to be encountered.—United Service.
