The Rangitikei Hunt Club races at the former place, and the Otago Hunt Club nt Wingatui. Acceptances for the Ashburton meeting close on Thursday next. Several horses that were not raced at

the Marton meeting will carry silk el the Rangitikei fixture to-day. Amongst the .number are Trespass and Miss GoldThough Sir Solo has not raced for a long time, his owner has not despaired of him, and the Grand National winner is again in work at Opaki. Roy Manson, who died at Auckland on Wednesday last after an operation for appendicitis, was a Wellington boy, and his mother lives here. For some tims past Manson had made his headquarters at Ellerslie, where he enjoyed a big connection. He was a capable horseman, and . last year rode nineteen winners. Mr. R. M'Kenzie was present at Marton to see Kilgour race. The Manawatu sportsman is much improved in health. J. H. Jeft'erd, with Grotesque, Epitaph and Humbug, and J. M. Cameron, with Molyneux and Tigrinia, left Marton for, Ellerslie yesterday. At the Rangitikei meeting to-day there will doubtless be a heavy list of scratch- > ings, as on Wednesday’s form several of the runners can: have little chance of success. In the Hunters’ Hurdles Te Maire and Silver Paul, each of _ whom x were successful on the Taranaki trip, may have most to say nt the finish, and the local horse may score on his own track, for he is reported to have been a trifle unlucky at Hawera. Several three-year-olds are in the Trial Plate, but they are at a disadvantage is; having to meet the elder division on equal terms so early in the season. Siberian ran well enough on Wednesday to suggest him as a likely one in the big field. Nicomar is a better class than the others in the Hunt Cup, and in the Crofton Handicap Stariand, who is to have the services of Ashley Reed, will do a lot better than ho did on Wednesday. Ruddy and Bonny Briar are likely to ( race prominently in the Telegraph Hai> dicap, and in the Bracelet Sunray and Royal Gift may fight their Dannevirke battle oyer again. Lord Desmond will be a better horse for his race on Wednesday, and may have a .lot to say in the the Hack Welter Handicap. Makers will be a runner in the Telegraph Handicap at Marton to-day, but Ditchley got kicked on Wednesday, and is reported to be an- unlikely starter. A Press Association telegram from Stratford states that Mr. W. R. Russell has been appointed handicapper io the Stratford Racing Club, vice Mr. J. E. Henrys resigned-
