SOCIAL AND PERSONAL The annual dancs of the Wellington Ladies’ Hockey Association is to be held next month. The committee in charge of the artangements comprises Mrs. Hutchens, Misses Dick, K. Skinner, Yorston, GeU, Dulcy, and Johnston, and Messrs. Tandy, Edwards, Manning, Foster, Martin, and Griffin and Miss L. A. Skinner is the hon. secretary. Mrs. M<ft tin Elgnr ' (Featherston) is staying at the Midland. Mr. and Mrs. H. Mawley (Masterton) and Mrs. L. Moore are visiting Wellington. Mt. and Mrs. J. Perry, who have been staying at “Cranston," Seatoun, return to Masterton to-day". It was decided at the meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday that Sister R. E. Bursill be promoted to sister-in-chargo of the fever hospital (vice Sister M. Armstrong, resigned), and that Senior Nurse H. Aitken be promoted to sister on the nursing staff. The resignations of Senior Nurses N. Bergin, A. E. Paddon, and lv. Turner, who have comtheir service of training, wcre received with regret. Mrs. C. F. Vallance returned to Kahauhungi (Masterton) on Saturday from a visit to Lowry Bay. Mrs. Mackay returned to Napier yesterday after spending some weeks with her sister. Miss Perry, at Seatoun. Miss Campion (Hastings) is visiting Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. H. Morrison (Masterton) have been spending a few days in town.

A wedding of interest was solemnised at St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Auckland, when Miss Kathleen Lucas, second daughter of Mrs. J'. P. Lucas, was married to Dr. Eric Marchant, of Wellings tou, Bishop Averill officiating. The church wns prettily decorated with arum lilies, posies of white flowers, and . asparagus fern. Tho bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Bruce Lucas, wore a frock of white channeuse, which fell in graceful folds from the shoulders. The long narrow train was finished with sprays of tiny rosebuds, and the bridal veil was caught round the head with a wreath of orange blossom. A white prayer-book to which was attached a bunch of white heather, 1 was carried by the bride, and a sheaf of lilies. Miss May Lucas was bridesmaid, and wore a frock of primrose taffeta with panniers of tulle in the same shade, her hat of cream ailk being lined with primrose and wreathedl with a primrose shaded feather, her bouquet being yellow and whit|6 to match. Mr. Arthur Mac Shane was the best man. After tho ceremony a reception was held at "Ngalira," the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Horton. On tftrival the guests were received by Mrs. Lucas and Mr. Bruce Lucas. The rooms wcre decorated with a quantity of spring flowers. Bowls of narcissi and violets were arranged in the drawing-room, and the tea table in the dining-room was arranged with doll vases of snowflakes. Later in the afternoon the bride appeared in her going-away frock, which was of crown cloth, embroidered in primrose chenille and worn with a brown hat and fur coat. Tho wedding was largely attended by many representative Auckland people, and a most enjoyable dance was given at “Ngalira" in tho evening. Mrs. W. Perry (Penrose, Masterton) is visiting Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. D. Cameron, of “Moeraki,” Martinborough, left last evening fox- a visit t 6 Auckland, after spending a day or so in Wellington. The marriage took place at the Anglican Church, Lower Hutt, of Miss Vera Bacon, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Bacon, Burnham, Somerset (England), to Mr. Malcolm Mason, onlj son of Dr. and Mrs. Mason, Lower Hutt. The bride wore her travelling costume qf hydrangea blue, with a drawn-silk hat to match, trimmed with a white mount, and a white feather boa, Dr. Mason giving her away. She carried a bouquet of violets and freosias. The bridesmaid. Miss Jill Hislop, who had worked with the bride at Walton Hospital during the war, wore a light bluecrepe de chine frock with a pretty hat to match,’ and carried a violet bouquet. The Rev. Hansell performed the ceremony, after which a reception was held by Dr. and Mrs.’Mason, beautiful rhododendrons and camellias decorating the drawingroom in which the guests were received, and in the diningroom were violets and freosias. Dr. Mason and Mr . Oswald Beers proposed the various toasts. Mrs. Mason wore a saxe blue costume and hat to match her b° u §uet hein" of violets. Mrs. Ashley Dunean, sister of the bridegroom, was in cream, with a cream wool cloak and black hat, and Miss Jenkyns (aunt of the groom) was in pale blue with a blac v hat and brown furs. Among the guests was Miss AVilson, formerly mation ot Walton Hospital. The first evening wedding took place in John’s Church, Will’s Street, on WeduX, when Miss Edith Innes, the second daughter of the late Mr. . . B. Innes and Mrs. Innes of Bo ” 1 ; ot Terrace, was married to Mr. A. A? ton Kinuear, also of Wellington, end second son of Mr. W. Kinnear, of Sydney. Tho Hev. Dr. Gibb performed the ceremony, and Mr ’~ was at the organ. The bride wh was given away by her brother M’. C. A. Innes, wore a gown of Pans lace over net, and pale pink crepe d 0 chine, the draped l corsage being of pale pink brocade, with largo pink rosettes on either side. A very successful and enjoyable dance was hold; by the staff of C." Smith’s, Ltd., on Wednesday evening, in St. Peter’s Hall, in Ghuzneo Street. Lycopodium, flags, and Chinese lanterns were used with excellent effect in decorating tho hall, and delightful music was playedl for tho dancing. The committee in charge of the arrangements for the evening comprised l : Misses Duggan. Moir, Miller, Benge, A. M'Millan. N. M'Millnn, M'Carihy, Hadfield, Webb, and Messrs. Smythe, M'Konzie, Cox, Lee, Billing, Constable, and Pfaff, the secrcltarj’ being Mr. C. J. Pfaff. Some very pretty frocks were worn, and a thoroughly pleasant evening was spent by everyone. , Messrs. M'Konzie, Smith. Leo, and Cox wore masters of ceremony.

Returned Soldier*’ Ball, A meeting of the Wellington R.S.A. Ball Committee was held in the club rooms yesterday afternoon to make arrangements for their annual ball, which is to be held on August 29. Mr. G. F. Wilson was in the chair, and comprising the committee are: Lady Luke, Mrs. W. Perry, Mrs. Preston, Mrs. C. Earle, Mrs. Batten, Mrs. J. Darling, Mrs. J. Harper, Mrs. Stott, Misses Speed, Morison, Sievwright, Shand, Messrs. W. Perry, Curtayiie, Hardham, Sievwright, Kelly, Pasooo, Lunn, Johnson, Avoling, Cummins, Thomas (treasurer), and R. J. F. Aldrich (secretary). It was reported by the secretary that Their Excellencies the Governor-General nnd Viscountess Jellicoe would attend tho ball, and would bring with them a party from Government House. Some discussion took plac» with regard to the price, to be fixed tor tickets to the ball, and it was finally decided that 12s. 6d. would bo charged for single and 20s. for double tickets, no difference to be made this tune in price between returned soldiers and civilians. The engagement of the orchestra for the night of the dance was left to the chairman and secretary to deal with, and a sub-committee, consisting of Miss Morison, Miss Speed, M e »sr». Sievwright, Curtayno, Aycling, and w neon (convener) was appointed to arrange the programme. A unanimously carried proposal was that the Caledonian Pipe Band should be engaged to play the Highland scottische. Decorations, supper, nnd tho securing of flowers for the tables were also discussed, and bv the intei-est that is already being displayed in the ball, and the very capable committee that is in charge of the arrangements a brilliant success may be lookedtfor. st. mlarvs bazaar OPENING TO-MORROW NIGHT. To-morrow evening at 7.30 His Grace Archbishop .O’Shea will open in the Town Hall tho St. Mary’s rebuilding bazaar. The public is now familiar with the new building, beautiful oven in its unfinished state. VV hen completed. St. Marv’s will lie one of the finest monuments of Gothic architecture m Australasia. This noble structure involves the expenditure of upwaras of JMO.OOO. and the bazaar promotera feel confident that their efforts to complete the magnificent edifice will have the generous support of all classes. Splendid attractions have been provided for the amusement ami entertainment ot patrons. Novel side shows and numerous games of skill will be in strong evidence to tempt the curious and the venturesome. Stalls replete with a chowe variety of dainty wares will gladden the eves of the fair sex.
