LORD NORTHCLIFFE
VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA PROSPECTS OF WASHINGTON CONFERENCE By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright (Rec. July 27, 9.10 p.m.) New York, July 26. Lord Northcliffe, in an interview, said he did not know what his plans would be when he arrived in Australia. He wanted to see tho peoples of Australia more than the Governments, and did not desire banquets or official receptions. He expected to spend a week in New Zealand, then he would he in Australia for three weeks, afterwards going to the Philippines. Referring to the Imperial Conference, Lord Northcliffe said their part in bringing up the Pacific question was undoubtedly beneficent. It was an invaluable thing for them to get together and discuss matters of close interest. President Harding’s conference call was highly commendable. He could only hope that it would accomplish the end desired as speedilv as his American friends expected it would. "Tho Americans have not yet,” Lord Northcliffe added, "had as much experienco ns we have in seein" politicians of sixteen different nationalities bottled together behind closed doors. They do not settle a series of difficult questions within forty-eight hours. The Washington conference will probably meet in many cities throughout the country, even meeting up in Canada, but after a considerable period of time it can be expected they will solve their problems." —Aus.-N.Z.
