COMPACT PETROL-DRIVEN GENERATOR
Partly as a result of developments in connection with aircraft, a marked advance has been made recently in the production of very light and compact petrol-driven electric generators by British firms. As an example, a combined set capable of producing SOO watts weighs only 551 b. The engine is air cooled, and is able to give a continuous output of GOO watts if run nt 2500 revolutions per minute instead of at the normal speed of 1700 revolutions per minqte. At a pinch the engine can bq safely run up to 3400 revolutions without undue heating. Tho set is intended far Httery and consumes only one-tenth of of petrol for 300 watt nours. It can also be adapted to produce alternating current for X-ray work and similar requirements.
