“WHAT IS THE UNIVERSITY DOING”

VICTORIA COLLEGE SUCCESSES. "It is sometimes asked 'What is the University College doing,’ ’’ states the annual report of the Victoria College Professorial Board. "A great part of the work of . such an institution, as this must be devoted to the training of those who are to carry on the life of the community in education, law. commerce, and science, and the college is able not only to do this but to produce leaders in these departments of national life. "Of our own college staff three of the chairs are occupied by former students of the college, and with one or two exceptions all the assistants have been trained In the various departments of the college. Among appointments made during the year were:—Mr. P. W. Burbidge. M.A., M.Sc., Professor of Physics, Auckland: Mr. J. Caughley. M.A., Director of Education; Mr. P. Verschnffelt, LL.B.. Public fie.rvice Commissioner; Mr. A. Pair, LL.B., Crown solicitor, “Wellington; Mr. A. H. Tocker, M.A., assistant to Professor of Economics, Canterbury College.”
