Sir, —As keen interest is being shown in the formation of the Wellington La- ; dies' Rugby Football Club, muy I be permitted through your columns to raise a few points in this connection. It has been suggested by the chairwoman at the club’s meeting of last evening that the rules of the game could be "modified” so as to make the game "more like Soc- | cer.” If the girls are going to flirt with the rules in this manner they might as well start playing Soccer and let the rougher game go hang. And how ridi- I culous is the fact that the girls are \ wasting so much time deciding on I heir wearing apparel when they are in no way prepared for wearing ft. Do these girls really understand the hazards they are taking in playing this j game? I certainly consider it the duty 1 of the promoters of the scheme to en-. lighten the prospective players in tho dangers that lie before them, and to have them to understand that the game is not one that contains all pleasure and entertainment and no hard work While the game is the national one of this Dominion (for males), it must be remembered that males are more firmly’ built and less susceptible to hard knocks and rough treatment than females. A girl can receive as much harm from a 1 slight knock as a man would probably suft’er from a severe grilling "under the scrum.” Besides the girls are (Already afraid that they will be unable to play the game. They "don’t want a-fone to see them practising," and "they aren’t going to take too many chances.” Fancy entertaining tho idea that they can' practice “without the moonlight”! Girls, a little light on the subject is the very thing you need. When these girls realise that in "wearing the trousers” they are courting the ridicule of the public, they will be satisfied in trying- tennis and baseball, even if the subscriptions of tennis clubs are t so high—l am, etc., FOOTER. f
