MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Masterton, July 12.

The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yeserday, Mr. \V. Dalzioll presiding. A deputation from the Upper Plain Water Supply Committee waited, on the council with reference to a demand by the council that the committee place a new culvert over a water race on one of the county roada. It was pointed out by the deputation that there was a culvert at tho point under discussion, but that it did not extend over the whole width of the road. It was resolved that councillors would look into the matter and decide whether the removal of trees on the road side would remedy the trouble experienced. A resolution contained in a letter from the Stratford County Council, urging a universal J! for .£ subsidy on hospital board levies, was supported, it being pointed out that some of the boards received a subsidy of 305.. while the local board's subsidy was only 20s. 3d. The ranger reported that during the- past month he had impounded 12 horses and 20 cattle. Councillor Moore moved, and it was agreed, that the ongineer report as to whether it would ho practicable to remove gravel from the Ruamnhunga River with the aid of scoops and convey it to the metal crusher.
