HOUSE BURNED DOWN
LITTLE CHILD HAS NARROW ESCAPE. By Telegraph—Press Association New Plymouth, July 11. A two-storied wooden house on Mangarei Road was completely destroyed by fire early this afternoon, and a child ten months old had a narrow escape. When the fire was discovered the alarm was given, and a small fire engine was dispatched from the central station, but the brigade could do nothing to stay the progress of the flames, as the house was out of the area served by the water mains. Within an hour only the chimneys remained standing The house was owned by David Rea, who only recently retired from a farm in the Uruti district. Constable Parkinson was in occupation as tenant, and a week ago the Reas moved into the house. There was an insurance policy of All2OO in the Yorkshire office on the house. There was no insurance on Rea’s furniture, but Parkinson’s furniture was covered by a policy of .£l5O.
