NEGOTIATIONS FOR RECONCILIATION SEPARATE PAPAL STATE PROPOSED By Telegraph—Preea Association —Copyright (Rec. July 8, 9.30 p.m.) London, July 7. The “Mail” states that negotiations ars proceeding between the Vatican and the Italian Government for the purpose of a reconciliation enabling Italy to appoint a Minister to the Vatican, thus making it possible for the Pope to end his self-imposed seclusion in the Vatican. Under th© plan at present being considered. the Pope would recognise the King of Italy ns the sovereign of Rome and all former Papal dominions, except the portion of the city which has become absolute Pontificial territory. It is also proposed that ten thousand acres of Monte Mario district bo added to tho Papal dominions, creating a separata Papal State. —United Service.
[The territory of tho Papacy is now confined to the palace of the Vatican and the Lateran and the Villa of Castel-Gan-dolfo, which aro guaranteed to tho Pope (with a yearly indemnity of .£129,000, which is neither claimed nor paid) by tho Italian Government.]
