DIOCESAN SYNOD
YESTERDAY’S SITTINGS SUGGESTED PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE Th* sittings of the Wellington Diocesan Synod were continued yesterday, nndftr the presidency of the Bishop of Wellington, Dr. T. H. Sprott. Leave was granted the Ven. Arch-deacon-Watson to introduce a Bill entitled "An Act to Provide for the Establishment of a Social Service Board." The Bill- was read a first time, and the second reading was set down for Monday next. Tho Bev. H. G. Blackburn© (Palmerston North) moved: "That, in tho opinion of this Synod, if would bo of much benefit to the life and progress of ihe Church if a provincial church congress should bo held at some central place; and that a committee of one clergyman and one layman be set up to communicate with other dioceses on this subject, such committee to consist of the Bev. W. Bancourt and Mr. B. L. Button. According to Mr. Blackburn® some fifty clergymen in Christchurch had expressed an opinion in favour of the congiesa, and for that reason he thought it desirable to bring the matter before the Synod. From the point of view of fellowship the congress would do a great deal of good in bringing together the representatives of the six dioceses in New Zealand. The congress would tend to create a healthy public opinion on many important topics. The Bev. F. W. Kempthorno said that the motion—which he supported—would have far-reaching effects. If the Church at Home believed in holding such congresses, why could they not do the same in tho Dominion? The motion was carried. Tho following were elected members of the Diocesan Missionary Committee:— Von. Archdeacon Innes-Jones, Bev. W. J. Hands Messrs. E. H. Anderson, H. D. Andrews, H. E. Evans, C. H. Seville, J. Snell, and A. P. Williams. The election of the Standing Committee resulted as follows: —Clergy, Ven. Archdisaoon Johnson, Ven. Archdeacon Innes-Jones Ven. Archdeacon Watson, Bevs.' C. F. Askew, W.
