MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING. The Makara County Council held its monthly meeting yesterday, Councillor S. Bryant presiding. lliero -n ere also present: Councillors D. J. Mouaglian, S. Bowler, S. 8. Styles, E. Mindlej, and L. D. Nairn. , , Tho council expressed its condolence with Councillors Bryant and Monaghan and ox-Councillor Monk in their recent bereavements. It was decided to take steps, by way of special order, to have a special sanitary area created at Ngahauranga.. The Stratford Hospital Board wrote requesting the support of the obtaining a pound for pound subsi y the Government for hospital boarcL, * provision that where districts special disabilities grants m aid ot revenue should be made available in addition to ordinary subsidies. Aftet eo discussion the letter was allowed to remain on the table. . , The medical officer of health reported the following cases of infectious disease in the- county:—Efiteric, 1; diphtheria, 1: scarlet fever, 2. The Finance and Works Committee stated that it was inadvisable to make a cash contribution towards the erection of a war memorial at Newlands, and that the council should provide lalmur and material—the cost of which should not exceed £5. To keep track of the expenditure on roads, the. committee was of opinion that a roads expenditure book should bo kept, showing the amounts spent in labour, cartage, , and supplies on each road in each riding of tno county. . , ~ s After carefully going into _ the matter, tho committee was of opinion that tho following urgent works should be carried cut as opportunity presented itself:—Repairs to Hawtrey roads, which were in a very bad condition, consequent upon increased traffic owing to the whole of tho settlement being taken up. Repairs to roads in Titahi township, on the representation of a petition; repairs ' to retaining wall at Beetham’s, Ohariu.
