YESTERDAY’S RING COMPETITIONS By Telegraph—Special Reporter. Palmerston North, June 23. The weather was fine for the third day of tho National Dairy Show, and there was a very large attendance. It is now quite certain that the total takings will far exceed those of last year’s fixture. Plenty of amusement was provided for the public to-day in the shape of ring events, and these created considerablo interest, and were well contested. The Hon. W. Nosworthy (Minister of Agriculture) was present during the day. To-morrow, when tho sfibw will close, the Governor-General will be present, and will leave for Wellington by -the New Plymouth train. The ring competitions resulted as follow:— Pony Leaping.-—H. Gunderson s Ginger, 1; Ivan Morgan’s Gibson, 2; A. Osborn’s Robin, 3. Maiden Hunters—W. Di Buick’s Doctor, 1; J. Regan’s Faton, 2; J. Waller’s Motokia, 3. Open Hunters’ Competition.—Mrs. J. Shaw’s Rits. 1;' W. H. Olliver’s Gay Willie, 2; Miss K. Aldrich’s Hikorangi, 3. The hounds display was a very interesting and amusing item, resulting in some good jumping by most of the horses engaged. The takings for the three days show amount to £268 ahead of last year’s figures. DAIRY FACTORY MANAGERS ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. (From our Special Reporter.) Palmerston North, June 23. Tho annual meeting of the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association was held in Palmerston North this week. Mr. W. M'Keown, Dominion president, was in the chair. The annual report stated that the past season had been a very successful one. The membership had again materially increased under the new constitution, which was now in its second year. Spaking to the report, the chairman said that factory managers had striven to keep up a high standard of ibyir products, and it was pleasing to think that they had cast aside all selfish individual aims. A committee, consisting of tho president, secretary, and Mr. Kelly was appointed to administer the Hopkins Relief Fund, which had been raised on behalf of the widow and family of the late Mr. C. Hopkins, of Masterton. Jt was stated that £221 had already been subscribed to the fund. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—Dominion president, Mr W M'Keown (re-elected); provincial presidents, Messrs. E. H Ite*ve (Taranaki), W. Kilpatrilck (Manawatfi), D. Kelly (Bush), A. E. Fletcher (Hawkes Bay), J. Middleton (South Island), and 4. J. Garry (Auckland); auditor, Mr. W. E. Bendall; Dominion secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. AV. Smith. Among the remits adopted was one from Manawatu: "That an adequate staff for whey skimming cheese factories lie- For one vat, one man and manager, thereafter one man to a jat and one extra besides the manager. At the Invercargill wool sale to-day there was a fair attendance of buyers, but bidding was not as keen as at the previous sale here in January, the bulk of the wool was bought by oversea bujers The greater part of the catalogue was good to medium crossbred, very few lots of finer qualities being offered. The sale of stud stock held by the Associated Auctioneers in connection with the National Dairy Show did not attract large entries. There was a good attendance, and the shorthoiins o - Bay of Plenty, who paid ]ust upon £lOOO for them. The best prices secured were: 144 guineas for Birkland Dainty, IL guineas for Dairymaid, 130 guineas for Pittochie Quime, and 101 guineas f Birkland Duchess. The Jerseys if or most part were a poor lot and tome should never have been allowed in a pedigree show stud sale. The only sale of note made was that of Mrs. . The sale, on the whole, was considered a very successful one. and was conducted by Messrs. Dalgety and Co.. L»td. The sale of pedigree Jerseys on account of Mr. A. Buchanan was’ held at his homestead on June 22, when there was a large and representative attendance of buyers. SALE OF PEDIGREE JERSEYS The Middle run disposal sale of pedigree Jerseys was held on Tuesday in the cattle pavilion of the Wairarapa Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Carterton. This being one of the most important sales of Jerseys held for many years, attracted buyers representative of all parts of the Dominion, and the different lots offered were well distributed amongst the visiting buyers. The herd, tzhirh was founded in 1903, was built up chiefly on Monoply lines, which strain predominated right throughout the offering, and tho show career and butter-fat records were no doubt responsible for the success of the sale. The cattle were brought forward in excellent order, and the bilyers showed their appreciation of the quality and condition of the stock by keen competition. A total clearance was effiisicd under the hammer, with the exception of about half a dozen yearling bulls the 71 females selling at from 30 to 290 guineas, making an average throughout of 80 guineas. King, John Brown, M'Callum’s, Bordier, Sensation, and Victor; also all varieties not classed as Hunters or Pearl heroin.
